Day 7: Brora to Dornoch

Distance: 22.17 miles (35.68 km)

Weather: Sunny day with an easterly chilly breeze

Start Time: 08:05

Finish Time: 17:35

Day 7 of the JoGLE journey started with a walk along the stunning coastal path and then to Brora harbour. The day was full of lovely landscapes and unexpected encounters with the sun shining bright, though an easterly breeze kept things refreshingly cool as I began the walk.

Today’s route was generally flat, walking along the beach for much of the day with a small detour onto the A9 to get round the head of Loch Fleet. The sound of the waves, the vast stretch of sand, and the feeling of the cool breeze in the air made for an wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.

I passed seals basking on the beach seemingly unimpressed by my presence, and a majestic building - Dunrobin Castle. It looks like something out of a storybook, with its towering spires and picturesque setting against the clear blue sky.

From the beach I walked through a large pine forest next to Loch Fleet and then onto the A9 round the head of the loch before continuing along the the south side of the loch. Loch Fleet is a nature reserve with all types of wildlife - including more basking seals

Along the way I met three incredibly kind people who promised to make donations to support Alzheimer’s Research UK, and a fellow camper also made a contribution.

A feature of today’s route was walking alongside not one, not two, but three golf courses! And I ended the day by walking alongside the Royal Dornoch, a stunning course with beautifully manicured greens.

Adam and I had good meal at the Dornoch Castle Hotel where we were presented with a small bottle of whisky to see us on our way—an unexpected but much appreciated gesture.

And with that we’ve completed our first week on the road to Land’s End!
