Day 8: Rest Day (sort of) – Dornach to Tain

Distance: 9.36 miles (15.06 km)

Weather: Sunny with an easterly chilly breeze

Start Time: 08:10

Finish Time: 11:00

Day 8 was down as a rest day – although not entirely a day off. I needed to put in some miles today otherwise I would have ended up doing about 29 miles tomorrow, which is too far. So I set out for a relatively short 9.36 mile trek.

The walk started with a pleasant stroll through Dornach, a picturesque town. From there, I followed a lovely lane that led me to the very striking Dornach Bridge. Let’s just say bridges, high ridges and the like have never been my favourite part of a hike, so after crossing with some unease I resisted the urge to drop in to the Glen Morangie Whisky Distillery on my way past!

Adam met me in Tain and we motored back to the campsite. We enjoyed a relaxing lunch at the Milk and Honey Café in Dornach, then it was time for shopping and back to base to catch up on some desk work. Writing this blog was part of that, helping me stay on top of my journey's details.

Tomorrow promises to be another long day, as I head toward the Great Glen Way, which I plan to reach by Saturday. It’s going to be challenging, but I’m feeling good after today’s shorter, more restful walk.
