Day 6: Helmsdale to Brora

Distance: 12.37 miles (19.91 km)

Weather: Sunny with an easterly chilly breeze

Start Time: 09:09

Finish Time: 15:27

Today was one of those days: the weather was just gorgeous—sunny with a refreshing easterly breeze, making it a perfect day for walking. I had decided to take the coastal path, the route was mostly flat, and there was plenty of walking along the beach, with the sound of the waves breaking on to the shore

Elsewhere the walk wasn’t without its challenges though. There were sections of the path that weren’t well defined, and I found myself having to pay close attention to stay on track. At one point I meet a couple who kindly directed me on the best way round a very stoney headland. The coastline here is beautiful, and is very peaceful with almost nobody on the beach.

Eventually, my walk finished along the side of Brora Golf Course, and the contrast between the manicured greens of the course and the wild coastline was striking. When I arrived in Brora, I made a small navigation mistake and ended up at the wrong campsite! Thankfully Adam came to the rescue with Moo the motorhome.

After a cup of tea I settled down to write this blog in the afternoon sunshine. and reflect on the day’s walk.

Now putting my feet up, and then getting ready for tomorrow’s 20-miler!

Editor’s note: He’s far too humble to write about it, but David’s adventure has been picked up by the BBC; you can read their article here.

Not only that, but today was also the day his GoFundMe page went over £10,000 in donations – a massive thank you to everybody who has contributed!

Please do continue to comment on and share the blog, the more people who find out about what he’s up to the better!
