Day 61: Bidford-on-Avon to Chipping Camden

📍 Distance: 13.41 miles (21.58 km)

☀️ Weather: Warm all day with gusty winds

🕙 Start Time: 10:13 AM | 🕔 Finish Time: 4:45 PM

A fairly easy and relaxed day today. I had arranged for my friend Kay to pick me up in Chipping Campden around 5pm so I took the opportunity to have a later start and enjoy a slower pace.

I stopped in Long Marston for a refreshing pub break — an orange and lemonade before lunch. From there, I continued on to Mickleton, where I discovered a fascinating old church dating back to the 1100s

One of the most striking moments came in the woods on Bakers Hill, just above Mickleton. There, nestled quietly among the trees, I found a carving of a Belgian soldier — made by a wounded Belgian soldier himself in 1917, while he was recovering at Norton Hall Hospital.

I arrived in Chipping Campden to the sound of its annual festival in full swing — fairground rides, music, and that unmistakable buzz of a community celebrating.

Kay met me as planned and kindly drove me back to the home where Adam and I will be staying while I walk the Cotswold Way.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, I’ll be meeting up with friends who are joining me to walk from Chipping Campden to Snowshill.
