Day 60: Henley-in-Arden to Bidford-on-Avon
📍 Distance: 15.4 miles ( 24.78 km)
☀️ Weather: Warm all day, with gusty winds
🕤 Start: 09:18 | 🕔 Finish: 16:45
Today’s walk was a gentle one, winding through the undulating countryside of the Warwickshire countryside. After so many hard miles recently, it’s a welcome change to have an easier day. The scenery was a mix of rolling farmland, quiet footpaths, and fields that seem to have been left to nature.
The only real challenge of the day was a maize field with a crop growing right over the footpath. A long detour around the field’s edge was required
Lunch was in Alcester, a small town of Roman origin, with a lot of character. It has some beautiful old buildings and a lovely church.
Tonight’s campsite is buzzing with activity, but it has a fantastic perk – it’s part of the local pub. Even better, the owners, Matt and Amy, have generously donated the site fee to Alzheimer’s Research UK. Their kindness is yet another example of the goodwill I’ve experienced throughout this journey.
And now, a milestone of a different sort: tomorrow I reach Chipping Campden – just a half-hour’s drive from home. For the next six days, I’ll be walking from home, returning each night to my own bed and meals. After two months on the move, that going to be absolute luxury.
