Day 84: Bridgerule to Canworthy Water
📏 Distance: 12.00 miles (19.31 km)
☀️ Weather: Warm with gusty winds
⏰ Start Time: 11:08 | Finish Time: 15:28
After a lovely stay at Headon Farm Campsite, we said our goodbyes this morning. A big thank you to Linda and Richard, our generous hosts, for their warm welcome. Linda has shared our JustGiving page on the local community Facebook group, Friends of Headon—a kind gesture I truly appreciate.
Today’s walk started where I left off yesterday—in the quiet village of Bridgerule, nestled along the River Tamar. This river marks the border between Devon and Cornwall, so crossing the bridge this morning meant stepping into the final county of the JoGLE journey: Cornwall!
Much of today’s route followed quiet country lanes, as I’ve continued to avoid overgrown footpaths. These rural roads wound through several peaceful hamlets, and at one point I passed a milestone marking 125 miles to Land’s End—a reminder of how close the finish line is now.
I stopped for lunch in the pretty village of Week St Mary, where I took a moment to visit the local church. Inside, preparations were underway for their monthly tea and cakes afternoon, an event to support people in the village living with dementia. After a friendly chat with the churchwarden and volunteers, I left admiring their community spirit.
From there, I continued through more rolling countryside to reach the small village of Canworthy Water, where Adam met me for a lift back to the campsite in Camelford.
Tomorrow’s walk from Canworthy Water back to Camelford is again a shortish day of about 13 miles.
