Day 63: Snowshill to Dowdeswell
📍 Distance: 14.79 miles (23.80 km)
☀️ Weather: Warm with a chilly breeze
🕣 Start Time: 08:27 | Finish Time: 14:15
Today’s walk began a little differently. Kay kindly drove me back to yesterday’s finish point at the Snowshill Arms and took charge of the morning video, which will be posted as soon as Wifi / 4G allows!
This stretch was one of familiarity, passing through areas I know well from training walks. The footpaths rolled gently across the Cotswold landscape, offering sweeping views that never quite lose their charm, no matter how many times you've seen them.
Along the way, I passed the B&B in Wood Stanway where Geoff Yates – my longtime walking partner – and I stayed during a memorable trek back in 2005. It brought back a flood of memories and a quiet moment of reflection.
Next came Winchcombe, a town I always enjoy walking through. Sadly, no coffee for me today – but it was still a pleasant stop before continuing on to one of the day’s highlights, Belas Knap Long Barrow - a 5,500-year-old a Neolithic burial site and a fine example of a Long Barrow
From there, it was a peaceful cross-country route to Dowdeswell, where Kay met me and drove me back home. While the comfort of home is welcome, it also feels a little strange. On Saturday, we head south, returning to life in the motorhome for the final stretch of the journey.
Tomorrow follows a similar pattern: dropped off in the morning, picked up in the afternoon – this time in Painswick. Another day of walking, and progress on this incredible journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
