Day 48: Hebden Bridge to Hollingworth Lake Campsite
📍 Distance: 14.30 miles (23.01 km)
☀️ Weather: Sunny and hot, with a cooling breeze all day
🕘 Start Time: 09:02 | 🕒 Finish Time: 15:15
Last night, we enjoyed a lovely meal at the Hare and Hounds in Chiserley, just above Hebden Bridge. After our meal, the pub’s owner took an interest in our journey. She asked about the walk, our motivations, and where we were heading next. Before we knew it, she was taking photos and sending them to her husband, James — who promptly shared our story with their 50,000 followers on their Facebook page! Incredible to see such spontaneous support.
Even more touching was the generosity of fellow customers who pledged donations after hearing about the cause.
The kindness continued this morning, with a donation coming from Derek at the campsite. Another promised to share our story — and my photo — on their own Facebook pages. The ripple effect of community support is wonderful.
We had a lovely treat before setting off: Melissa (my niece) arrived with her boys, Max and Thomas. It was lovely to see them. The boys stayed with Adam at the campsite for the day while I tackled the walk.
I was joined this morning by my friend Anthony for the first 10 miles. We set off with a steep climb out of Hebden Bridge up to Stoodley Pike. From there, we crossed the open moors toward Warland Reservoir, eventually reaching The White House Inn on the A58 above Littleborough.
There, we parted ways as Anthony and his wife headed home. It meant a lot having him alongside for the walk today.
For the final 4 miles to the Hollingworth Lake campsite, Melissa joined me. It was great to have some company on this quieter stretch, and a lovely way to end the day.
Another great day filled with connection, support, and beautiful scenery. Tomorrow, I set off for Crowden – the penultimate day of the Pennine Way.
