Day 35: Byrness to Bellingham

📍 Distance: 15.95 miles / 25.67 km

🥶 Weather: Cold

🕘 Start: 09:05 – 🕒 Finish: 15:30

Today was one of those quieter, more introspective days on the trail. Jacky headed off early, so I began the morning walking solo. After a peaceful stretch along the river, the Pennine Way led me to the edge of Kielder Forest, where the path became a mix of forest tracks and undulating hills.

The route today had lots of long forest roads and open moorland. It wasn’t the most inspiring section with the landscape being barren moorland for the large part.

As we approached Bellingham though, the scenery softened. The landscape turned more pastoral—rolling fields and gentler views, a welcome sight after after the harsher moors.

And a couple of great surprises today: I met Mark, who’s walking the Pennine Way south to Edale, and I also bumped into a fellow JoGLE walker I hadn’t seen since Day 15. It was great to share the final stretch into Bellingham with them.

Tomorrow is a rest day, so no blog until Wednesday. Time to recharge legs and mind before continuing the Pennine Way.
