More wonderful generosity today…
We started out along the historic Dere Street, the old Roman road, tracing its line through stunning countryside all day. I was joined by Jacky – who had been staying at the same campsite but whom I hadn't seen for the past three days. It was lovely to catch up and share the trail again.
A memorable (if not exactly enjoyable!) moment came when we crossed a suspension bridge – one of those that bounce and sway underfoot. Not my favourite experience, but it’s all part of the challenge.
Lunchtime brought a pleasant encounter with two ladies walking the St Cuthbert’s Way. After a friendly chat, they kindly took a flyer and said they’d like to donate – thank you both!
The afternoon saw us climbing several steepish sections, before a long descent into Tow Ford, where Adam was waiting to return us to Town Yetholm, our base for the night.
Back at the campsite Fiona and David, the site owners, visited the motorhome to make a donation. Shortly after, Fiona’s father also came by with his own contribution. He lost his wife two years ago, and the family knows all too well the heartbreak and devastation that Alzheimer’s disease brings.
To Fiona, David, and your father: thank you. Your generosity and support means more than words can express. It’s a reminder of why this walk matters – why research must continue, and why funding through donations and legacies is absolutely vital. Scientists are confident they’re on the path to a cure – but they need the funding to get there. You can donate too, just click the button at the top of the page, or follow this link.
Tomorrow, we cross into England – another milestone on this incredible walk from John O'Groats to Land’s End.
