Day 29 – West Linton to Peebles
📍 Distance: 12.30 miles / 19.79 km
🌤Weather: Dry, sunny, and warm
🕘 Start: 09:50 | Finish: 14:45
After nearly a month on the road, today felt like a real treat – a shorter stretch and some well-earned time to unwind. I had a late start this morning, knowing there were only 12 miles to cover, and I’m glad I did.
The second day in the Pentlands delivered more of the glorious scenery I’ve come to associate with this part of the walk: rolling hills, quiet forests, and wide-open spaces that seem to stretch forever.
The route had its fair share of ups and downs, but the sunshine and peaceful surroundings made it all seem very easy.
I reached Peebles earlier than expected and checked into the lovely campsite. With the afternoon free, I had the rare chance to sit back, relax, and soak up the sunshine – a bonus half-day rest.
Today people again have been responding to the walk – some donating, others promising to do so. I’m hopeful the leaflets I’ve handed out will make people aware of Alzheimers Research UK and the need to support the cause. Every conversation, however small, enables me to make people aware and it is just such incentives that drive me on.
Tomorrow I’m looking forward to seeing Bob and Joyce on the road to Innerleithen. It’ll be good to share part of the path with friends as I did yesterday with Adam’s friend Johnny.
