Day 20: Tyndrum to Beinglas Campsite, Inverarnan
Distance: 12.05 miles / 19.39 km
Weather: Sunny and warm
Start: 09:11
Finish: 15:37
After a minor hiccup with accommodation at Tyndrum Holiday Park (who politely turned us away), the receptionist at Tyndrum Lodges saved the day by letting us stay overnight in their car park.
Given the shorter mileage today, I treated myself to a rare lie-in. A later start meant a gentler pace, and the sun made an early appearance, promising a good day ahead.
The path meandered beautifully along riverbanks, weaving through history and beautiful scenery. Near Dalrigh I passed the site where Robert the Bruce and his troops, fresh from defeat in 1306, supposedly cast their weapons into a Lochan. Whether it's myth or truth, it adds quite the atmosphere to the landscape
From there, the trail led to the ruins of St Fillan's Priory, a 13th-century church once endowed by Bruce himself. The stillness of the site made it easy to picture monks moving silently through the glen.
After that it was up and over felled forest land, offering sweeping views of Ben More and Stob Binnein, still clinging to traces of snow at their peaks. A few ups and downs kept things interesting before the final stretch: a crawl through a sheep creep under the railway line then a peaceful walk alongside the river, culminating in the dramatic Falls of Falloch.
A surprisingly good day in every way—good weather, rich history, and fantastic views and scenery.
