Day 10: Evanton to Beauly

Distance: 19.14 miles (30.80 km)

Weather: Sunny and warm all day

Start Time: 08:47

Finish Time: 16:47

Today was nearly 20 miles, all on roads, under a blue sky.

I set off from Evanton in the morning, walking quiet country lanes that eventually led me to Dingwall. The scenery was lovely, with Foulis Castle overlooking the shimmering Cromarty Firth—a real standout moment early in the day.

From Dingwall, the route took me along cycle paths running beside the main roads – functional, but not the most peaceful, as the heavy traffic thundered by.

After a while I opted for a slight detour through Maryburgh, where I bumped into Jacky, who I first met in Wick on Day 2. She’s walking JoGLE solo, with a rucksack and tent, quite the challenge! She’d set off much earlier and was taking a break when I found her so we decided to walk the afternoon stretch together,

Together, we found some quieter lanes that offered a break from the traffic noise, winding our way towards Muir of Ord. The final couple of miles into Beauly, however, put us back on footpaths right next to the main road – less ideal, but manageable.

We arrived in Beauly in time for tea (a very welcome treat), and then it was a short 30-minute walk to the campsite.

I’ve made good progress today – gaining a whole day by taking a more direct route to Beauly instead of detouring through Strathpeffer. That means tomorrow will be a bit of a breather: a semi rest-day with just half the distance to Drumnadrochit, and then the rest the following day.

Two half days coming up… yippee indeed!
