Day 1: John O’Groats to Keiss
Distance: 14.38 miles ( 23.14 km)
Weather : Bright and sunny with a chilly breeze.
Start Time: 10.30
Finish time: 17.05
After a good night's sleep, the adventure officially started at 10:30am! On a bright, sunny day in northeast Scotland, I set off from John O'Groats, where Adam had taken video and photos at the famous John O'Groats signpost. And so, Day 1 of my JOGLE (John O'Groats to Land’s End) walk began.
The day kicked off with a trek over rugged moorland. The path wound its way through the landscape, and I soon picked up the coastal footpath. From there, the scenery transformed into something truly wonderful – stunning coastal views stretched out in front of me. The sound of crashing waves accompanied by the sight of numerous seabirds flying about made it all breathtaking.
However, the terrain was far from easy. The walking was rough, and the path was full of twists and turns. As I strolled along the cliffs, I stumbled upon remarkable ancient structures perched on the cliff edge, remnants of a time long past.

During my walk, I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely couple who are taking six months to complete this very same route. Later, I bumped into a lady who recognized my old village, Parbold, which brought back fond memories.
A particularly memorable encounter was with a local man named Kevin, who was out with his four collie dogs. They seemed to know the coastline well, happily enjoying their time by the sea.
After a solid 14 miles in 6 hours, I finally reached our destination for the day: the charming village of Keiss. The energy of the first day was exhilarating, and I was ready for some well-deserved rest before tomorrow’s challenge.
Tomorrow’s route will take me to Wick!
