Day 67: Uley to Horton
📏 Distance: 15.60 miles / 25.04 km
🌤️ Weather: Warm and overcast with gusty west winds
🕤 Start Time: 09:29 | Finish Time: 16:30
After a rest day at home, I was back on the trail today—refreshed, rebooted (and freshly shod thanks to a visit to the chiropodist!)
Kay kindly drove me back to Uley, where I’d finished up on Wednesday. A huge thank-you to her for all the driving this week—not a job to envy, especially on Wednesday when we had to leave at 6:30am!
Today’s walk was comparatively easy, though it took a little time to get back into my stride after a full day of rest. I opted for road walking in the morning, starting with a long uphill climb that eventually levelled out into a pleasant route with gentle inclines. The narrow, quiet lanes made for delightful walking—picturesque hamlets dotted along the way, and the occasional modern mansion peeking out between the trees.
In the afternoon, I rejoined the Cotswold Way trail. Along the way, I passed the monument to Lord Somerset and later stopped at Horton Church, which sits next to Horton Court—now National Trust holiday accommodation.
After reaching the campsite, a cup of tea and a shower were in order. Just as I was settling in, I got a wonderful surprise—Jess, my former ARUK Regional Fundraising Officer (now ARUK Community Fundraising Manager) arrived at the motorhome door! I had absolutely no idea she was coming. Apparently, she and Adam had been plotting this for a while—juggling plans and messages, which had to be revised more than once because of my ever-changing schedule and route!
It was fantastic to see her. We all went to the pub for dinner and had a long, much-needed catch-up. Thank you, Jess, for making the trip after a full working week—I really do appreciate you taking the trouble to come and visit.
Tomorrow, a longer walk awaits as I head into Bath. But after today I feel like I’m back in the rhythm again.
