Day 65: Painswick to Uley
📍Distance: 12.24 miles (19.70 km)
🌤️ Weather: Warm and overcast with sunny spells
🕗 Start Time: 08:54 | 🕝 Finish Time: 14:15
Today I had the pleasure of being joined by Rebecca, the daughter of my friend Kay, who travelled all the way from Surrey to walk this stretch with me. I'm so grateful for the effort she made to be here—it was a real joy to share this part of the journey with her.
To make logistics a bit easier for Rebecca’s return trip, we took two cars. She left hers in Uley, our finish point for the day, and we then drove together back to Painswick to begin our walk.
The route offered plenty of variety and interest. We passed through gently undulating countryside, with the climb up to the ridge at Maitlands Wood. After a stretch of country lane walking and through Kings Stanley, we tackled the ascent to Penn Hill. From there, we joined a bridleway that took us through Woodland for about three miles.
Along this wooded stretch, we came across two long barrows reminiscent of the one I saw back on Day 63. It's fascinating to stumble upon these ancient sites, markers of prehistoric history,
With time a consideration, we opted to take the road down Crawley Hill into Crawley and then on to Uley. This decision allowed Rebecca to get back home for her family although not the best finish to a day’s walking.
The weather remained kind throughout, and I couldn’t have asked for better company. Sharing the walk with Rebecca was a special way to spend today’s leg of the journey.
Thursday is a well-earned rest day, so there won’t be a blog post until after Friday’s walk. Until then—feet up, with a cup of tea in hand.
