Day 58: Kingsbury Water Park to Meriden

📍 Distance: 16.59 miles / 26.70 km

🌦️ Weather: Overcast with heavy squally showers, warmer in the afternoon

🕣 Start Time: 08.30 | 🕓 Finish Time: 16:00

After a welcome rest day at the picturesque Kingsbury Water Park, it was time to lace up the boots and hit the trail again. The break was made all the better by a lovely visit from friends Karen and Peter, who made the journey to spend time with me. We shared a relaxed coffee in the morning and enjoyed an evening meal at the Dog and Doublet Pub– a great spot. I really appreciated their visit.

Back on the trail today, I walked through a varied landscape. Kingsbury village was charming with its ancient church before the route took me skirting a military firing range—thankfully inactive! From there, I pressed on through fields filled with corn and into tranquil woodland approaching Meriden.

Unfortunately, the scenery had some stiff competition from the weather. The morning was dominated by heavy rain and gusty showers. Although it dried up around lunchtime, the threat of another downpour kept me in my waterproofs for most of the day.

I had a brief adventure courtesy of a group of curious (or confrontational?) horses occupying a field that my footpath crossed. Rather than risk a standoff, I detoured around their territory and managed to rejoin the path with no harm done. After that, two rickety stiles and a few poorly marked fields aside, it was a largely uneventful walk

Not many photos today due to weather conditions, hopefully a few more tomorrow.

Its a 16-mile walk tomorrow that's blissfully flat. If the weather holds, fingers crossed it should be an easier day.
