Day 43: Hawes to Horton in Ribblesdale

📍 Distance: 14.52 miles (23.37 km)

☀️ Weather: Sunny and hot with a welcome cooling breeze on the fells

🕘 Start Time: 08:50 | 🕒 Finish Time: 15:00

After a brilliant stopover at Hawes Campsite last night—huge thanks to the very helpful manager—I hit the trail again this morning. The day began with a steady uphill climb out of Hawes, passing the Wensleydale Creamery (tempting smells!) before reaching the open fell.

Once on the tops, the scenery really opened up. And then clear skies meant I had fantastic views across to the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks: Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. Simply stunning.

The trail was busy today, with lots of fellow walkers on the Pennine Way. Most of them are aiming to complete it within the next week or so. It’s always great to meet fellow walkers and swap stories.

Today was certainly a hot one, but thankfully an easterly breeze up on the fells kept things comfortable.

Still, I was glad to finally descend into Horton in Ribblesdale, where I stumbled upon the Blind Beck Tearooms at the far end of the village.

A huge thank you to Heather who donated the tea and cakes as a generous donation to Alzheimer’s Research UK—incredible support and very much appreciated.

Tomorrow is a rest day—so no blog, just feet up and a chance to recharge!
