Day 40: Ousby to Brampton

📍 Distance: 11.70 miles (18.83 km)

☀️ Weather: Sunny and warm all day

🕤 Start Time: 09:27
| 🕐 Finish Time: 13:30

Although there was no space available on the touring site in Ousby last night, Sid the owner kindly offered an unused static pitch for the night. A big thank you to Sid for his hospitality, it got us out of a spot of bother!

The day was beautiful, with the sun shining over the Eden Valley as I set out. Rolling countryside all around – peaceful and green. I enjoyed good views of Great Dun Fell and Cross Fell . I’d made a decision to avoid those heights in favour of the more forgiving terrain through the valley.

Making good time, I arrived in Long Marton for a relaxed lunch. I found the perfect spot in the churchyard of Long Marton Church. This is where my niece Melissa, Adam’s sister, was married. Sitting there in the sunshine brought back memories of that day which Susan and I really enjoyed.

From there it was a short walk to Brampton. Unfortunately the campsite there was full, so we retraced our steps and settled at a peaceful site back near Long Marton. It turned out to be a great find with views overlooking the rolling countryside and the distant Lake District fells in evening light. Very many thanks to Sam and Joanne the owners who have donated the site fee to Alzheimer’s Research UK

Tomorrow, I head to Kirkby Stephen.
